New COVID-19 Subvariant Detected in India, Symptoms Mild: INSACOG Data

New Delhi, [25/05/2025] – A new subvariant of COVID-19 has been identified in India, according to the latest data from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG). Health officials have confirmed that the symptoms associated with this subvariant are mild, with no severe cases reported so far.

The subvariant, which has been detected in several states, is being closely monitored by health authorities. Experts suggest that while the strain appears to be highly transmissible, it does not cause severe illness in vaccinated individuals or those with prior immunity.

Common symptoms reported include mild fever, cough, sore throat, and fatigue, similar to previous Omicron variants. Health officials have urged the public to remain cautious and follow preventive measures, including wearing masks in crowded places and getting booster doses if eligible.

The Union Health Ministry has assured that the situation is under control and that genome sequencing efforts are being intensified to track the spread of the subvariant. No additional restrictions have been imposed, but states have been advised to enhance testing and surveillance.

For further updates, citizens are advised to follow guidelines from local health departments.
